Best of 2017
My annual favourite music list is ready to go, albeit a little late by my standards. It was a great year for new music, and I found myself checking out other year end lists as there was just so much I’d never heard of. I made one major discovery from those lists: Lingua Ignota – All bitches must die. It’s a must for Diamanda Galas fans.
As usual, not everything here is for everyone (if you follow my old 80s Johannesburg nightclub pieces and club mixes, this is probably not a list for you [smiley face]). These are albums that I found myself listening to over and over. Some if it is jangly, some experimental, some gothy, some shoegaze, some electronic, some dark, some really dark with a smattering of metal.
There are also two Deezer playlists at the end of the post that feature my best songs that were not necessarily off albums of the year (but there is representation) as well as links to the the obligatory DJ mixes of a small selection of said favourite songs that I do every year. As always, these playlists are split into uptempo and moody.
